Fruit is a key crop in worldwide agriculture feeding millions of people. The standard supply chain fruit products involves quality checks to guarantee freshness, taste, and, most all, safety. An important factor that determines its stage ripening. This usually manually classified by field experts, making it labor-intensive and error-prone process. Thus, there an arising need for automation ripeness classification. Many automatic methods have been proposed employ variety feature descriptors the food item be graded. Machine learning deep techniques dominate top-performing methods. Furthermore, can operate on raw data thus relieve users from having compute complex engineered features, which are often crop-specific. In this survey, we review latest literature automatize classification, highlighting common they on.
